Koo Kwang-mo, LG Group chairman, met with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang at the company\u2019s headquarters in Santa Clara, California, on the 13th, local time, and agreed to accelerate cooperation in three areas: robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) factories, and mobility. LG announced plans to develop and unveil a bipedal humanoid robot equipped with NVIDIA\u2019s high-performance embedded computing module and platform, \u2018Jetson Thor,\u2019 in the first quarter of 2027.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, Koo signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic business cooperation with Huang. The event was attended by LG executives, including Kwon Bong-seok, LG\u2019s Chief Operating Officer, Lyu Jae-cheol, CEO of LG Electronics, Hong Bum-shik, CEO of LG Uplus, Hyun Shin-gyoon, CEO of LG CNS, Chung Sue-hyun, President of LG Sciencepark, and Lee Hong-lak, co-head of the LG AI Research Institute.<\/p>\n

This official meeting between Koo and Huang marked their second encounter in approximately two months, following their prior meeting at LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul, last June. Koo stated, \u201cAs our collaboration gains momentum, the tasks we will tackle together in AI factories, physical AI, and mobility have become clearer. We will accelerate the spread of AI by establishing industry-leading references.\u201d Huang emphasized, \u201cBuilding on years of collaboration, LG\u2019s leadership in product engineering and manufacturing, combined with NVIDIA\u2019s technology, will usher in a new era for robots, AI factories, and autonomous vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u25c7Humanoid Robot Development Based on NVIDIA Chips, Unveiled in Q1 2027<\/p>\n

LG and NVIDIA expanded their collaboration to cover the entire process of physical AI development, from humanoid and wheeled robots to data systems required for training and advancement.<\/p>\n

LG will develop and unveil a next-generation bipedal humanoid robot in the first quarter of 2027. The robot will be equipped with NVIDIA\u2019s high-performance embedded computing module and platform, \u2018Jetson Thor,\u2019 for onboard computing and advanced reasoning and control. Currently, the robot is being developed based on NVIDIA\u2019s open-source humanoid foundation model, Isaac GR00T, and Hydra for Robotics, the industry\u2019s first full-stack integrated safety system for robotics.<\/p>\n

LG also revealed plans to deploy its wheeled manufacturing robot, LG CLOiD, at the washing machine production line of LG Electronics\u2019 Tennessee factory in the U.S. this year for proof-of-concept (POC) testing in a real manufacturing environment. CLOiD, also developed based on NVIDIA\u2019s Isaac GR00T, will undergo testing in collaboration with NVIDIA\u2019s technical team.<\/p>\n

NVIDIA will collaborate with LG CNS to build a robot data factory based on its PhysicalWorks platform. This partnership aims to implement and operate a physical AI data factory that repeatedly collects, generates, trains, and verifies data at actual sites.<\/p>\n

The companies also announced plans to operate a joint task force (TF) composed of technical and business experts to enhance the execution of this collaboration. The TF will serve as a control tower for the entire process, from research and development to verification and commercialization.<\/p>\n

\u25c7Combining NVIDIA and LG Expertise to Lead the \u2018AI Factory\u2019 Market<\/p>\n

LG unveiled plans to consolidate its capabilities in cooling (LG Electronics), batteries (LG Energy Solution), design and operational expertise (LG CNS and LG Uplus), and power solutions (LS) to build a global-leading \u2018AI factory\u2019 based on NVIDIA\u2019s DSX AI Factory architecture.<\/p>\n

First, LG will establish a reference site by 2027 to apply and verify its cooling, power, and IT technologies using NVIDIA\u2019s next-generation AI platform, \u2018Vera Rubin.\u2019 Subsequently, LG plans to expand and construct an 80MW-scale AI factory in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, by the first half of 2028. By securing references for AI factories based on NVIDIA\u2019s latest platforms, LG aims to expand business opportunities in the global AI infrastructure market.<\/p>\n

Additionally, LG announced plans to develop a next-generation high-performance computing platform for autonomous vehicles by combining NVIDIA\u2019s Drive Hyperion platform with LG\u2019s in-vehicle infotainment and software capabilities.<\/p>\n
