The next-generation Tesla Roadster<\/a> will be revealed on October 1, the automaker said on Saturday. Tesla showcased the concept a decade ago and has since delayed its launch a number of times as it focused on AI, robotics, and autonomy which it believes is core to unlocking future growth. This is the first time we’re seeing a concrete reveal timeline for the long awaited model.<\/p>\n

The teaser reveals little about the Roadster, other than what appears to be its taillamps and four circular elements on top which could potentially be the SpaceX-developed cold gas thrusters<\/a> that could make it fly. The Information\u00a0<\/em>reported last month that the Roadster’s launch was imminent, and that the automaker was planning two versions: a limited edition “flying Roadster” and a road legal model.<\/p>\n

That report also added that the demo vehicle will be remotely operated due to the noise and force of the SpaceX thrusters. The flying model could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, if not over a million. However, don’t be surprised if the so-called flying Roadster is only a demo vehicle Tesla uses to flaunt its technology, whereas the street legal version ends up being the actual model on sale. Either way, we’ll soon find out.<\/p>\n

Tesla executives have, for years, hyped up the next-generation Roadster. The automaker’s VP of Engineering Lars Moravy previously said<\/a> the Roadster will be the “last, best driver’s car,” and that it would be the company’s “swan song,” before self-driving cars become ubiquitous.<\/p>\n
