{"id":9048,"date":"2020-05-26T11:32:45","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T03:32:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/battery9999.com\/en\/?p=9048"},"modified":"2020-05-26T11:32:45","modified_gmt":"2020-05-26T03:32:45","slug":"ev-battery-cell-makers-results-in-q1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/battery9999.com\/en\/ev-battery-cell-makers-results-in-q1\/","title":{"rendered":"EV battery cell makers results in Q1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>16\/05\/2020<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9049\" src=\"https:\/\/battery9999.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/lg-chem-battery-cell-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the first quarter of 2020, LG Chem was the EV battery cell maker that supplied the most battery capacity to automakers, in part thanks to Tesla\u2019s strong sales in China.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s see the results.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>LG Chem<\/strong>: 6,385 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Panasonic<\/strong>: 5,441 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>CATL<\/strong>: 3,064 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Samsung SDI<\/strong>: 1,364 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>BYD<\/strong>: 1,228 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>AESC<\/strong>: 1,036 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>SK Innovation<\/strong>: 0,604 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>GS Yuasa<\/strong>: 0,176 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wanxiang 123 (A123 Systems)<\/strong>: 0,1 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lishen<\/strong>: 0,31 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Farasis Energy<\/strong>: 0,22 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sunwoda<\/strong>: 0,22 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>CITIC MGL<\/strong>: 0,22 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hefei Guoxuan<\/strong>: 0,17 GWh<\/li>\n<li><strong>CENAT<\/strong>: 0,15 GWh<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Only six EV battery cell makers delivered more than 1 GWh during the first quarter of this year.<\/p>\n<div>Curiously, Panasonic provided 86 % of the battery capacity used by Tesla and the remaining 14 % was delivered by LG Chem, which is now making NCM 811 cylindrical battery cells\u00a0at its plant in Nanjing, China.<\/div>\n<p>While Panasonic still remains a strong EV battery cell supplier, the future doesn\u2019t look good. Relying almost exclusively on delivering NCA cylindrical cells to Tesla isn\u2019t a wise long term strategy, especially now that the automaker also has battery supply contracts with LG Chem and CATL.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Toyota, Mazda and Honda are the partners that Panasonic chose to deliver its new NCM prismatic battery cells and these automakers aren\u2019t strong supporters of electric cars.
