Quelque chose qui pourrait r\u00e9volutionner la fa\u00e7on dont nous chauffons nos villes. Il s&#8217;agit de\u00a0<strong>Varante<\/strong>, une installation de stockage thermique souterraine sans pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent. Il peut stocker jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 90 GWh d&#8217;\u00e9nergie sous forme d&#8217;eau chaude : de quoi r\u00e9pondre aux besoins de chauffage d&#8217;une ville moyenne pendant une ann\u00e9e enti\u00e8re. Mais comment \u00e7a marche exactement ? Et quelles sont ses implications pour l\u2019avenir de l\u2019\u00e9nergie ? Voyons ensemble, sereinement.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-un-progetto-ambizioso-nel-cuore-della-roccia\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un projet ambitieux au coeur du rocher<\/h3>\n<p class=\"gt-block\">Le projet Varanto, annonc\u00e9 par l&#8217;\u00e9nerg\u00e9ticien finlandais\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vantaanenergia.fi\/en\/carbon-negativity-2030\/heatstorage\/\">Vantaan \u00c9nergie<\/a>, implique la construction de\u00a0<s>trois immenses grottes souterraines \u00e0 Vantaa, \u00e0 environ 100 m\u00e8tres de profondeur dans la roche.<\/s>\u00a0Chaque grotte mesurera\u00a0<strong>300 m\u00e8tres de long, 40 m\u00e8tres de haut et 20 m\u00e8tres de large, pour un volume total de 1,1 million de m\u00e8tres cubes, stations d&#8217;\u00e9puration comprises.<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Le monde traverse une transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique majeure. L\u2019\u00e9olien et le solaire sont devenus des technologies essentielles dans la transition des combustibles fossiles vers les \u00e9nergies propres. Jusqu\u2019\u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, le plus grand d\u00e9fi de la transition \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019incapacit\u00e9 de stocker ces formes d\u2019\u00e9nergie intermittentes pour une utilisation ult\u00e9rieure.<\/p>\n<p><cite><strong>Jukka Toivonen<\/strong>, PDG de Vantaan Energia<\/cite><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"gt-block\">Les cavernes seront remplies d&#8217;eau chaude via deux chaudi\u00e8res \u00e9lectriques de 60 MW, aliment\u00e9es par des \u00e9nergies renouvelables lorsque le co\u00fbt de l&#8217;\u00e9lectricit\u00e9 est faible. En effet, l&#8217;usine pourra \u00e9galement r\u00e9cup\u00e9rer la chaleur perdue de l&#8217;industrie, gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 un syst\u00e8me de contr\u00f4le sophistiqu\u00e9 qui \u00e9quilibrera les diff\u00e9rentes sources d&#8217;\u00e9nergie.<\/p>\n<p>Une fois \u00ab compl\u00e8tement charg\u00e9 \u00bb, Varanto aura une capacit\u00e9 thermique totale de 90 GWh. Une quantit\u00e9 d\u2019\u00e9nergie suffisante pour couvrir les besoins de chauffage domestique d\u2019une ville finlandaise de taille moyenne pendant une ann\u00e9e enti\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>La plupart des logements de Vantaa, la quatri\u00e8me municipalit\u00e9 la plus peupl\u00e9e de Finlande, sont en effet raccord\u00e9s au r\u00e9seau de chauffage urbain souterrain de la ville, qui s&#8217;\u00e9tend sur plus de 600 km. La Finlande, d\u00e9j\u00e0 leader dans la production de chauffage urbain par rapport \u00e0 la population, vise ainsi \u00e0 rendre son syst\u00e8me \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique encore plus durable et efficace.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"gt-block\">En 2023, le pays nordique a g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9\u00a0<strong>37,3 t\u00e9rawattheures de chauffage urbain<\/strong>,\u00a0<s>dont plus de la moiti\u00e9 proviennent de sources renouvelables et 14 % de r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration de chaleur r\u00e9siduelle.<\/s><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Avec la mise en service de Varanto, pr\u00e9vue pour 2028, la part des \u00e9nergies renouvelables et de la r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration de chaleur est vou\u00e9e \u00e0 augmenter encore, r\u00e9duisant ainsi la d\u00e9pendance aux combustibles fossiles et la valorisation \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique des d\u00e9chets.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-un-modello-da-replicare-su-scala-globale\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Un mod\u00e8le \u00e0 r\u00e9pliquer \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle mondiale ?<\/h3>\n<p>L&#8217;importance de Varanto d\u00e9passe largement les fronti\u00e8res de la Finlande. Ce projet pionnier d\u00e9montre la faisabilit\u00e9 technique et \u00e9conomique du stockage thermique souterrain \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle, ouvrant la voie \u00e0 une \u00e9ventuelle r\u00e9plication du mod\u00e8le dans d\u2019autres villes et pays.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gt-block\">Bien entendu, la construction d\u2019une usine comme Varanto n\u00e9cessite des conditions g\u00e9ologiques favorables, comme la pr\u00e9sence de roches stables et imperm\u00e9ables dans lesquelles creuser les grottes. Cela n\u00e9cessite \u00e9galement d&#8217;importants investissements initiaux : Vantaan Energia estime qu&#8217;un\u00a0<strong>co\u00fbt de construction d&#8217;environ 200 millions d&#8217;euros<\/strong>, dont 19 millions ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 allou\u00e9s par le minist\u00e8re finlandais des Affaires \u00e9conomiques et de l&#8217;Emploi.<\/p>\n<p>Mais les avantages potentiels, en termes de r\u00e9duction des \u00e9missions, d\u2019efficacit\u00e9 \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique et d\u2019int\u00e9gration des \u00e9nergies renouvelables, sont \u00e9normes. Un avenir o\u00f9 l\u2019exc\u00e9dent d\u2019\u00e9nergie renouvelable et la chaleur r\u00e9siduelle de l\u2019industrie sont capt\u00e9s et stock\u00e9s pour \u00eatre utilis\u00e9s lorsque nous en avons le plus besoin.<\/p>\n<p>C\u2019est l\u2019avenir que commencent \u00e0 dessiner des projets comme Varanto.
